Generation Equipment In Air Traffic Research Proposal

(Sheridan, nd) Sheridan states that 'human-in-the-loop simulation' is both a "well-known and obvious need for any large system development involving people and technology interacting." (nd) These 'HITL' simulations are believed to be very expensive due to their requirement of "full-scale hardware and software setups that have face validity but are quite expensive to construct and operate." (Sheridan, nd) However, Sheridan does state that models of system processes and human observation which are "sufficiently good" make fast-time computer simulation an option as well.

SUMMARY & CONCLUSION

Simulation technology such as the a-SMGCS plays an important role in preparing today's air traffic controller personnel for coping with increasing air traffic in the airports which has been predicted for the future. At present, much is being invested in simulation training for the purpose of directing future technology so as to eliminate the greatest part of human factor errors that is possible....

Simulation training is assisting technology developers in the design and implementation of such technology through informing these developers as to the human factors that must be allowed for a guarded by the technology programs that will be implemented in air traffic control in the future.
